The Patterns of Place

The Patterns of Place
Installation exhibit, approximately 320 square feet. Created during a month-long residency in January 2017 at the Bunnell Street Arts Center in Homer, Alaska; on exhibit through the month of February.

For this residency, I focused on my personal connection to place and evaluated recurring themes of community and belonging. With support and assistance from organizations and residents of Homer, I spent the month collecting organic elements from the Kachemak Bay environment. As an adaptation on my typical artistic processes, I created a large-scale pattern installation of objects from our landscape. These biotic patterns were accompanied by serigraph prints with subjects of analogous significance.

Pattern materials included dried yarrow, pushki stalks, rose hips, alder branches, birch branches, birch bark, cottonwood bark, willow galls, alder cones, spruce cones, and beach rocks installed with over five pounds of hardware.
